Music Program

Music has long been one of the distinctives of the wider Mennonite faith community. Singing in four-part harmony became a trademark of the Mennonite community, dating back to 19th century Russia.

At MEI Chilliwack, this heritage is guarded through a music program in which all students participate. Only a handful of students do not continue with choral singing or with band into their Middle School age years.

Christmas concerts, Spring Concerts, and Musicals are part of our annual school calendar and form one of the year's highlights. The school's band participates annually, in the Chilliwack Music Festival, and this year, (with only grades 7 & 8) they were recognized with a Silver Medal.

Individual students have also had the opportunity to compete in District Music Festivals. This year, two of our students distinguished themselves, Sally Jung, one of our International students, and Brenden Hills.

Sally Jung received the 1st Place trophy for "Baroque Piano". She also won a Gold Medal for Grade 5 Piano.

Brenden Hills won a Silver Medal in Trumpet, at the Chilliwack Music Festival.
