Our 60,000 ft² school features a double Gymnasium, Art, Science, Home-Ec, Tech-Ed and Computer Labs. Our Student Support Center houses our Learning Assistance program, Counselor s office and a meeting area. The Middle School library is connected with the Secondary library, allowing our students access to a large collection of both fiction
and non-fiction resources.

HOW IS A MIDDLE SCHOOL DIFFERENT
MEI Middle provides a high quality Christian education in response to the characteristics, interests, needs and abilities unique to students 10-14 years of age. Middle Schools gradually prepare students to transition into High School in a more intimate, less fragmented learning environment. Both teachers and students are divided into teams and collaboration forms a significant part of the Middle School philosophy. Students will be cared for by their home-based teacher and will begin to receive instruction from a number of teachers as they progress throughout the Middle years. Middle Schools focus on helping students satisfy their need for close relationships with their peers and teachers while moving toward greater independence.

WHO ARE WE?
MEI Middle School is a place where students are challenged to make their faith come alive! We provide a faith-based curriculum, where students are encouraged to explore their questions about faith and to tackle tough life issues with a Christian worldview. Students attend a weekly chapel, take Bible classes and our Christian worldview is integrated across the curriculum. The heart of our school is TEAM. Each grade forms a Team in our school, and is lead by a teacher leader. Teachers on each team meet weekly to discuss student progress, needs and curriculum. Each student is assigned a Homeform teacher who meets with his/her students each morning for Advisory and provides instruction in some curricular areas. Teachers are paired into teaching partnerships and work together to provide optimum delivery of our curriculum. Our school is built around a large Multi-purpose room that serves not only as our Fines Arts facility but provides a place for Grade level teams and our student body to meet together. Every staff member at MEI Middle is committed to loving and serving Jesus Christ. Our staff is founded on a covenant of being rooted in love and truth, serving one another in love, and speaking the truth in love.

PROGRAM DISTINCTIVES:
STRONG ACADEMIC PROGRAM:
In the tradition of MEI Schools, MEI Middle has a strong focus on academics. Students also have a myriad of opportunities outside the classroom as our students participate in district spelling bees, public speaking, and math contests. Our Student Support Program is staffed with a Learning Assistant and a Counselor assisted by a Teacher Aide at each grade level.

FINE ARTS EMPHASIS:
We are one of the few Middle Schools in which every Grade 6 student participates in a Music program, along with having the option to play in Band. Grade 7 students may choose either Band or Music and Grade 8 students choose Band, Music or Art. MEI also offers a Drama option. In addition, there are a number of choral opportunities and MEI Middle School students are invited to play in a Jazz band. This April our school is presenting The Sound of Music.

LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE:
MEI Middle School is committed to developing and equipping leaders who are active and involved in the world in which they live. Currently, every Grade 7 student participates in a Service course which enables our students to be out in the community working with organizations such as MCC, the Salvation Army, Menno Home, and the SPCA. Grade 8 students may take a Leadership Class that provides student leadership to the school. Coordinating School Spirit Days, school-wide activities, and serving as school ambassadors, Leadership students work to make our school a great place to be!

EXPLORATORY PROGRAM:
We believe that the Middle years mark the time to try new things! We provide a variety of opportunities for students to explore and experience new activities both in and outside of the classroom. In addition to the prescribed academic curriculum in British Columbia, and a wealth of opportunities in the areas of music, drama, home economics, and industrial education (woodworking); students have the opportunity to explore technology through Info-Tech (Video Production) and Tech-Ed (Electronics, CO2 Cars, Bridge-building and Jewelry making). Every student will explore technology hands-on in our Tech Ed program and every Grade 7 and 8 student will move through a Leadership/Service Exploratory.

MEI MIDDLE SCHOOL ATHLETICS:
We offer a strong Athletic Program at MEI Middle School. This year we will have students participate in: Soccer, Cross- Country, Volleyball, Basketball, Tennis, Track & Field, and Triathlon. In addition, our Grade 8 students have the opportunity to swim on the Swim team and participate on the Ski and Snowboard teams. Our Athletic philosophy at MEI Middle School encourages participation. Any Grade 6 wanting to play a sport is encouraged to do so. At the Grade 7 and 8 levels, when try-outs are implemented, MEI offers Inner-School playing opportunities to all students in addition to our regular Intramural program at noon.

INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM:
In our inaugural year, MEI Middle has been privileged to host both long term and short term International Groups. Our school is equipped with an International room and students in our International Program receive ESL instruction and are then partially or fully integrated into our regular program.

HOME, SCHOOL, AND CURCH WORKING TOGETHER:
It is a privilege to partner with our families and our local churches. Parents are always welcome at our school and are currently volunteering in our classrooms, library, learning assistance department and office. MEI Middle School has a very active Parent s Advisory Committee (PAC) and Care Ministry. Moms Who Care also pray weekly in our building. I t is our desire that our families feel connected to the school and so every second Friday a newsletter informs parents of Grade level and School events. I t is also our privilege to welcome Pastors and youth workers into our school throughout the year.
